Walk the plans room by room
Think about where furniture goes, where you'll charge phones and laptops, and where the TV will be. Put power points where you'll actually use them, not just where the standard plan puts them.
Lighting
- Plan lighting around how you use each space, not a grid.
- Two-way switching at both ends of hallways and stairs.
- Outdoor lighting for entries, paths, driveway and the alfresco.
- Dimmers in living and dining areas.
Future-proofing
- A conduit or cable to the garage for a future EV charger.
- Switchboard space for solar, a battery and extra circuits.
- Data points for TVs, the home office and the WiFi access point.
- Hardwired, interconnected smoke alarms.
Outside
Weatherproof power points for the barbecue, garden and pool, plus power to a shed or future granny flat. Running conduit now is far cheaper than trenching later.
Rough-in and fit-off
We rough in during the frame stage and fit off after painting. A walk-through at rough-in is your last cheap chance to move a power point.
