The danger signs
- Power boards plugged into other power boards.
- Double adaptors stacked on double adaptors.
- Heaters, kettles or air fryers running from a board.
- Boards covered by rugs, curtains or piled with clutter.
- Warm plugs, discoloured sockets or a burning smell.
Use them the right way
Use one quality board with overload protection per power point, for low-draw items like TVs, chargers and lamps. Plug high-power appliances straight into the wall.
When to add power points
If you're relying on boards in several rooms, the house simply doesn't have enough outlets for how you live. Extra double power points, including USB ones, are a quick job and much safer.
Upgrade singles to doubles
Older homes often have single power points. Swapping them for doubles adds outlets without new cable runs in many cases.
