Smoke alarms
Short-term rentals in NSW have their own fire safety rules, including working smoke alarms. Interconnected alarms are the best option, so every alarm sounds when one detects smoke.
Safety switches on every circuit
Guests use appliances you didn't choose. Safety switches on power and lighting circuits protect them if something goes wrong.
Check outdoor fittings
Salt air is hard on outdoor power points, lights and BBQ areas. Check them before peak season and replace anything cracked or corroded.
Make it easy for guests
- Label the switchboard clearly.
- Leave a short note on how to reset a safety switch.
- Put USB charging outlets beside the beds.
- Use sensor lights on the paths and steps.
Book a check between seasons
An annual electrical check during the quiet months means fewer emergency calls on a long weekend.
